CJN Plumbing & Heating Contractors fitted a complete white three-piece bathroom suite in Stapenhill, Burton upon Trent, in July 2024. The work included a panel bath, pedestal basin, and close-coupled WC, along with full-height wall tiling to the bath surround and tiling around the basin area.
What condition was the bathroom in before the refurbishment, and what did it need?
The room had reached a point where surface repairs were no longer enough. The existing tiling around the bath and basin showed discoloured grout lines, and the sealant along the bath perimeter had deteriorated with visible black mould and separation. The uPVC window frame adjacent to the basin showed signs of moisture damage. Upper walls had been stripped back to bare plaster and plasterboard, and the floor was bare screed with no covering fitted. Rather than patch over these problems, the work addressed them properly: the suite was replaced, new large-format grey ceramic tiles were laid to full height above the bath and around the basin, and fresh sealant was applied at the bath edge. Copper pipework within the timber bath frame was accessible during the work with the side panel removed.

The flexible hose itself is stainless steel braided, which holds up better to the repeated flexing of day-to-day use than a standard plastic-coated hose.
What tiling was carried out, and how far does it go?
Large-format grey ceramic wall tiles were laid to full height above the bath and carried around the basin area. Above the tiled sections, the walls are painted plaster in a cream and off-white finish. Two glass shelves are mounted on the wall beside the bath. The extent of tiling on any given bathroom job depends on the layout and the customer's preference, so it varies from room to room.
How is ventilation handled in the bathroom?
A mechanical axial extract fan is fitted to the wall above the bath, with a white grille visible at ceiling level on the rear wall. The room also has a white uPVC double-glazed casement window adjacent to the basin, fitted with obscure glass and a top-opening vent for background airflow.
